Breeding requirements in Germany

In Germany the Barbet of a breeder or a Barbet as a stud-dog has to pass a special exam, so-called VAP, testing its general performance for hunting, although it only should be "used" as a family-dog. Only when the Barbet passed this test with success the breeding is allowed. In addition the hips have to be o.k. and the Barbet has to be presented at the so called "French-Day" of the VBBFL.

The VAP consists of searching, pointing, shooting strength on land and in the water, trail and blood spot work. It is directed in two parts:
The VAP (F
spring) concentrates on nose use, search, pointing, leadership, shooting strength on land.
The rest follows in autumn at VAP (H autumn).
